Everyone look forward for the sparkling decorations, colourful lights, happy talks, delicious food, jolly music, silly jokes , quality time with friends and family and exciting gifts. It is all because Christmas is at the door at the end of every year.

1) Christmas is a Christian festival particularly but also celebrated by non christians also. Christmas is celebrated to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, who Christians believe was the son of God. Roman Catholic Church decided to celebrate the birth of jesus on 25 December therefore For most people, Christmas is celebrated every year on 25 December to mark Jesus’ birthday. But no one actually knows the exact date of birth of Jesus.
Christians believe that Jesus was born in a stable town named as Bethlehem. Today, This area is found in an area of the Middle East called the West Bank.

2) It is also a fact that not all Christians celebrate Christmas on the same day. Many christians celebrates Christmas on January 7. These are orthodox christians are living In countries with large populations such as Russia, the Ukraine and Romania. Some GreekOrthodox Christians also celebrate Christmas on 7 January.

3) The word ‘Christmas’ comes from an old English phrase Cristes maesse, which means ‘Christ’s mass’. It is also known as ‘Xmas’ . The word has its own meaning comes from dates back to the 16th century. The ‘X’ represents the Greek letter ‘Chi’. It is the first letter in the Greek word for Christ. People in victorian time made Festive food like roast turkey, fruity mince pies and Christmas pudding.

4) Christmas is a fun festival and people around the world enjoy all kinds of jolly-good fun activities . As per the festive traditions in the UK , people send Christmas cards, give gifts and crackers to loved ones as well as make traditional foods like mince pies and roast turkey. They play games and do get together with their friends, family and loved ones. Spending quality time with loved ones and eat delicious feast is one of the tradition of Christmas.

5) Christmas trees are the important part of the celebrations of Christmas. This idea came from back in the 16th Century from Germany where, at Christmas time, people decorated fir trees with fruit , nuts ,sweets, paper shapes and candles. Amazingly, historians also think that this fun festival may originates from Romans and Ancient Egyptians, who used evergreen plants and garlands as symbols of everlasting life.

6. It is not fair to talk about Christmas and not mentioning big bearded, rosy-cheeked jolly man… Father Christmas. But now he got the name Santa Claus. The word Santa Claus came from Sinterklaas, which means Saint Nicholas in Dutch. St. Nicholas was a kind and generous Christian bishop who lived in the 4th century . It is said that On the night before Christmas, Santa Claus delivers presents to children on a sleigh pulled by flying reindeer with jingling bells and sparkling lights.

The year feels complete with Christmas. It is a time when most of the christians and billions of non christians celebrates the end of the year with lived ones.
